Strawberries should be plentiful this spring, farmer says
Ponchatoula strawberry farmer Eric Morrow says subfreezing temperatures on the Northshore this week have not hurt his strawberry crops.
"We're picking lots of berries right now, so I think there's going to be a nice supply of berries for Easter and going into festival week," Morrow told 99.5FM Wednesday.
Morrow says he covers his berries to protect them from the cold, and when he peeked under the covers Wednesday morning, they looked good.
Morrow does not anticipate a shortage of strawberries. He says there should be plenty on store shelves in the coming weeks.
The 2013 Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival will be held April 12-14.
