Race features elite runners from 13 countries, organizers say
Organizers say it's not too late to register for the 35th Annual Crescent City Classic 10K Run, which is set for Saturday.
You can register at the Hyatt Regency on Loyola from 10am to 8pm today.
A Health & Fitness Expo is being held today at the Hyatt in conjunction with the race.
Race spokesman John Sartori tells Fox 8 changes have been made to the race course. Instead of starting on Decatur Street at Jackson Square, the race will start on Poydras at Loyola at 8am.
It will proceed down Poydras toward the river, then turn left on South Peters and continue onto Decatur Street. From there runners will move through the French Quarter, passing Jackson Square and the French Market, then turning left on Esplanade Avenue where it continues all the way down to the front of City Park.
Runners will enter the park, pass in front of Storyland and the New Orleans Museum of Art and finish at Roosevelt Mall just outside Tad Gormley Stadium.
Sartori says the Crescent City Classic offers something for everyone, from the elite runner to the costumed party walker. And many of the elite runners are from other countries.
"The Kenyans are defending champions for a lot of years running now, but there's great Ethiopians, great Japanese, great Brazilians," Sartori said.
