The past two seasons were above average in activity, Steve Pavlovich says
A local entomologist says the 2013 mosquito season may not be as active as the past two seasons.
Steve Pavlovich of Mosquito Control tells 99.5FM the past two seasons were above average in terms of mosquito activity. This year he anticipates an average season.
"This year we had a little bit cooler temperatures during the winter months of January and February, and March as well, so it didn't require as much patrol with the (spray) trucks," Pavlovich said.
But all that could change, depending on the weather.
"If we have a cyclical rain pattern, of rains every couple of weeks, the mosquito populations tend to increase," Pavlovich said.
Pavlovich urges residents to be vigilant when outdoors, use repellant and empty any containers in the yard that could become mosquito breeding grounds.
