2 Jefferson Parish Republican reps are challenging governor's patchwork financing of the budget
Two Jefferson Parish lawmakers have tweaked their legal challenge to Gov. Bobby Jindal's patchwork financing of the budget. Now, they're asking a Baton Rouge judge to block the use of such financing in next year's spending plans.
Republican Reps. Kirk Talbot and Cameron Henry filed their amended petition Monday.
The original lawsuit asked for the current 2012-13 budget to be declared unconstitutional because it uses one-time money to pay for ongoing programs and services. The amended lawsuit claims the same constitutional problems with Jindal's proposed budget for the next fiscal year that begins July 1.
Talbot and Henry want the judge to stop the use of such financing methods before another budget is approved by lawmakers that contains the piecemeal funding.
No hearing date was immediately set by the judge.
