Details of the event will be released at a news conference today
Last year, hundreds of people left their cars at home and pedaled bicycles to work to mark the first NOLA Bike To Work Day.
Organizers hope even more people will participate in the city's 2nd Bike To Work Day on Tuesday, April 9.
Details of the event will be released at a news conference today at 11am on the front steps of City Hall.
"Folks from Entergy and Bike Easy will be there to give more specific information about where the meet ups are and where people can stop for refreshments, like at Duncan Plaza for example, and then the post Bike To Work party which will be at the World War II Museum," says Health Commissioner Dr. Karen DeSalvo, who plans to bike to work herself.
Organizers say the purpose of Bike To Work Day is to raise public awareness about the benefits of biking and about new developments to make New Orleans more bike friendly.
For example, before Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans had approximately 11 miles of bike paths. Today the city has over 50 miles, with more planned or under construction.
