Rep. Austin Badon predicts governor will have major problems getting his plan through the Legislature
State Rep. Austin Badon of New Orleans says Governor Bobby Jindal will have "major problems" getting his tax swap plan through the Legislature.
Jindal proposes to eliminate the state income tax, and to make up for the loss in revenues, he wants to raise the state sales tax from 4% to 6.25%.
Badon says the proposal is on "life support".
"He's gotta have bipartisan support. I don't think he has that. In talking to members of his own party, they are not in favor of it. I know a lot of Democrats are not in favor of it," Badon said.
Over 900 bills have been pre-filed for the Legislative session that begins Monday, April 8. Badon says he doesn't think 900 bills is an excessive number.
"I don't think it's a large amount. I think a lot of the bills, and I've been reading quite a few of them, have a lot of substance to them," Badon added.
