CCC tolls issue on May 4 ballot apparently fueling turnout in Jefferson
The Crescent City Connection tolls issue, on the ballot May 4 in Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines Parishes, is apparently fueling the early voting turnout in Jefferson but so far not having an impact in Orleans.
Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters Dennis DiMarco says West Bank voters have been turning out in force since early voting began Saturday.
"We've had 1,567 people come in and vote early, and of that number, 73% (1,137) were cast by voters living on the West Bank," DiMarco said Tuesday.
Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters Sandra Wilson says the early voting turnout so far has been slow, but it might pick up as it typically does toward the end of the early voting period and on the last day, which is this coming Saturday.
"We're a little over 1,000 people who have voted in person, and we have approximately 140 people who have actually turned in their ballots, the mail ballots," Wilson said.
