Municipal Affairs committee approves amended version of the bill
A state Senate committee has approved an amended version of a bill aimed at reforming the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.
Sen. Karen Carter Peterson, D-New Orleans, presented the amendments to the Municipal Affairs Committee on Wednesday.
The amendments include reducing board membership from 13 members to 11 members, which is two more than what Mayor Mitch Landrieu has called for. The amendments also contain language to ensure diversity among the appointments to the board.
The committee also approved a bill extending the period for inspection of assessment lists in Orleans Parish. The current period is August 1-15. The extended period would be July 15-August 15.
The measure also requires that complaints received by the assessor's office be forwarded to the Board of Review within 10 days after the date the complaint is received by the assessor.
