Those running from the law are encouraged to turn themselves in at a church
Fugitives from the law, like second-line parade shootings suspect Akein Scott, who are apprehensive about turning themselves in to authorities, can instead turn themselves in at a church under the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA) of Greater New Orleans.
IMA President Dr. Willie Gables announced the plan Thursday.
"They can come to our churches, and we are ready to accept them and to transfer them safely to the authorities," Gable told 99.5FM.
Gable says historically churches have served as refuges, and it's a role that churches ought to do. And even though Scott is now in custody, there are others just like him out there wanted by the law.
"We are encouraging them to come forward now before you make another mistake and end up harming someone or losing your life," Gables said.
