This first wave of volunteers will most likely serve meals in stricken neighborhoods
Red Cross volunteers from south Louisiana are on their way to communities in Oklahoma devastated by Monday's huge and powerful tornado.
"This morning, four of our volunteers left from the New Orleans office. They are driving our emergency response vehicles," says southeast Louisiana Red Cross spokeswoman Melissa Eugene-Duplantier.
Duplantier says feeding the survivors is top priority, so the volunteers will most likely be involved in providing meals. The emergency response vehicles will make it easier to serve meals in the stricken neighborhoods.
Duplantier says this is just the first wave of volunteers. More will be sent.
"We expect to send volunteers with a variety of skill levels as time goes on," Duplantier said.
