With 4 months to go, recall supporters say they're confident they'll get the 53,000 signatures needed for a recall election
The head of the group leading the effort to recall embattled St. Tammany Parish Coroner Peter Galvan says their petition drive is going well, although they have come up a little short of their monthly goals for collecting signatures.
Rick Franzo, President of Concerned Citizens of St. Tammany, tells 99.5FM they need to collect the signatures of at least 53,000 registered voters in the parish to force a recall election. Their goal is to collect 10,000 signatures per month. He estimates they've collected about 15,000 signatures since the drive began May 15.
In spite of coming up short, Franzo says he's confident the group will reach its goal of 53,000 signatures by the Nov. 14 deadline.
"If we can stay close to that number each month, we'll be fine. We'll achieve what we need to achieve," Franzo said.
In addition to collecting signatures at 40 locations throughout the parish, the group plans to try other methods of collection such as going door to door.
