47-year-old was a former client of the Covington law firm
Police say a 47-year-old Slidell man shot himself to death after firing numerous shots inside and outside the law office of attorney Timothy Upton at 816 N. Columbia Street in Covington.
Acting Covington Police Chief Jack West says police began receiving numerous emergency calls about 1:15 Tuesday afternoon about a man standing in a parking lot and firing a weapon.
Roderick Rist eventually went into a law office where more shots were fired.
Police entered the building and rescued a female employee who had hidden as the shots were fired. West says Rist's body was found inside.
West said at least 60 rounds were fired and officers recovered two .22-caliber handguns.
Rist apparently went to the office in search of Upton who told Fox 8 he did something Tuesday he "never does;" he went home for lunch. The firm recently represented Rist in a personal injury case.
