This is the second public meeting hosted by the Corps of Engineers during the 45-day public comment period
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting a meeting tonight in Laplace to receive public comments on a proposed $881 million federal levee system for St. John the Baptist Parish.
It's the second of two public meetings hosted by the Corps during the 45-day public comment period. The first meeting was held last week in Lutcher.
The Corps has tentatively selected Option "C" for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction Plan.
"At this point we have a tentatively selected plan, a draft tentative selected plan, but that's just one part of the puzzle. We need to hear from the public and from the resource agencies to gather as much data as we can," says Corps spokesman Rene Poche.
The meeting will be held at the St. John Community Center on Highway 51. An open house will held from 6-6:30pm, followed by a presentation and public comment period at 6:30pm.
