And as enthusiastic as Talbert was when finding out who all agreed to be on board, each actor I had the pleasure of speaking with was as genuinely enthusiastic about being a part of the project. Taye Diggs character, Langston a former boyfriend of Montana , is comical but slightly different from any other Taye Diggs character you’ve seen. What made Taye Diggs jump on?
Jill Scott plays Montana ’s female best friend, Gail. Does Jill like this character?
Now let me tell you. Jill Scott is giving me EVERYTHING as Gail! This is a completely different character than Sheila from the “Why Did I Get Married” movies. This is the woman Sheila dreamt of being. Jill Scott is a sex symbol (and no… sex doesn’t need to be had to be a sex symbol; she’s a desired person). How does she receive that?
For the film’s co-star, Derek Luke, the good time was playing the character William, working alongside Paula Patton:
Honestly, Luke’s portrayal of William was so genuine to me because off camera he is such a sweetheart. I tend to root for people more when I know in real life they are genuinely humble, down to earth people. It’s no wonder that he made that character so realistic.
I see what Derek is talking about. I want to hang out with Paula Patton because of this film. She is just so much fun, especially in conversation with her. She could definitely be my karaoke partner with her singing and dancing done in Baggage Claim.
You heard Talbert say Paula was the first to jump on the project but Paula Patton was on board with the project the first day she read the script:
If you are looking for twisting plots and unexpected moments then this may not be the movie for you, but if you can appreciate the quirkiness of love and how we get caught up in it then you would appreciate how Montana’s love life unfolds. Even the married couple can appreciate the film. Writer, David Talbert and actor Derek Luke explain why:
La La Anthony, pops up a few times in the film and she agrees with the way the story unfolds because it relates to her own love life with husband, Carmelo Anthony:
The film also features Jenifer Lewis, Lauren London, Trey Songz, Tia Mowry, Djimon Hounsou, Adam Brody, Affion Crockett, Christina Millian, Terrence J and Rickey Smiley. Overall the film is a fun ride that brings you through familiar events then warms your heart. Its appeal is very universal which I for one appreciate. No matter your age, gender, race or marital status you can find fun in Baggage Claim. This is why:
And if that’s not enough to convince you to check out this cute romantic comedy I asked Boris Kodjoe and Taye Diggs to do a little role play like they are homeboys convincing each other to see the film. It may seal the deal:
